Sampling is a design studio created by architect/designer duo Liene Jakobsone and Manten Devriendt in Riga, Latvia.

Liene’s handmade furniture pieces are inspired by craftsmanship and spatial experience, while using local and natural materials to create contemporary designs.

“Creating objects by my own hands and mastering a variety of handicraft techniques allows me to test concepts that add a new dimension to traditional craftsmanship” (Liene Jakobsone)

The use of crochet and knitting techniques is prominent in her designs, combined with wood and other natural materials.

“Farming” is a series of poufs made from crocheted hemp twine and oak-wood details, first presented at Interieur 2012 in Belgium and then at Ventura Lambrate during Milan Design Week 2013. Taking inspiration from the mutation of volumes, they assume forms that relate to nature, landscape elements and animals.

“Warmer” is a lamp collection with a difference. Made using a wood turning machine to give that particular shape, the lamps are then ‘warmed up’ by a knitted scarf applied by the designer, giving a touch of personality.
