Nendo has presented his latest installation at the Saint-Etienne Design Biennale 2013 in France called Coloured-Pencil Tables, a collection based on the traditional Japanese art of Udukuri. The soft parts of the cypress board are carefully scraped away leaving only the harder natural grain of the wood. Nendo then placed paper over the wood and started to trace the remaining textures with pastel-coloured pencils.
“This created a tantalizing juxtaposition between the familiar proportions of wood and the finish of the paper. Ultimately, the project gave us a glimpse of the future of furniture, through the manipulation of surface texture,” explained Nendo to Dezeen,
Nendo’s Coloured-Pencil Tables will be on show until the 31st March.
