The Toolbox is the title of this year’s exhibition at Fuorisalone by ‘Belgium is Design’, where the main theme of the year emphasises the vital link between designers, workshops and enterprises.

The project is also a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Henry van de Velde (1863 – 1957), a Belgian artist, designer and architect who laid the foundation for the economic and cultural models in modern design.
PAULINE GORELOV - TOKIO (2012)
“We need the logical structure of the objects, consequent logics in handling the material, sincere and proud demonstration of the creative processes.” Henry van de Velde, 1903

The ‘toolbox’ is a honeycomb cabinet of wonders, forming what is in essence a three-dimensional database to design in Belgium: from woodbending to weaving and glass casting techniques. Its contents include tools, details and elements from participating manufacturers, and also patterns, samples, prototypes and moulds that represent designers’ research in new materials and processes.
